Based In Santa Monica, California,
SUSAN DENEAU INTERIOR DESIGN specializes in creating eclectic and refreshingly modern interiors that combine comfort with style, vintage and antique items with contemporary and new furnishings and high-end pieces with inexpensive finds. Possessing the ability to envision the overall “big picture” design concept of an interior space, as well as giving equal attention to the smallest decorative details, Ms. Deneau offers clients a broad scope of services and expertise, regardless of a project’s size or budget.
Uncommon pairings of materials, furnishings and color combinations are the hallmark of her interiors, all of which consistently reflect an artistic and refreshing mix that is tailored to each individual client’s lifestyle, taste and personality. “Every design scheme should reflect the spirit of the owner and even more importantly, function specifically and easily with the way they live and use their space. If it’s a beautiful room, but doesn’t work with the client’s lifestyle, then it’s not good design.”
After 15 years as a successful publicist in the music industry, Ms. Deneau made the decision to turn a life-long passion and hobby into a full-time career, by enrolling in the Interior Design and Architecture program at UCLA in the Fall of 2000. Prior to starting her own firm in 2004, Susan Deneau began working in the field of interior design at the acclaimed Los Angeles firm, M. Design Interiors, Inc. while concurrently attending school. Serving as design assistant to the principal & owner, Molly Luetkemeyer (listed as one of House Beautiful magazine’s Top 100 Designers for the past 3 years), Ms. Deneau assisted with numerous high-end residential projects, culminating with a room that was designed for the 2002 House Beautiful Celebrity Showhouse. “The project simply would not have gotten done or turned out as well as it did without Susan’s exceptional taste, patience and ingenuity,” comments Luetkemeyer. “I count myself lucky to have had such a talented woman on my staff.”

Her work at M. Design was followed by a one-year tenure as a Designer at the Beverly Hills-based firm, D. Crosby Ross, Inc., known for their upscale residential projects and entertainment industry clientele. Ms. Deneau’s main focus during her time with the company was devoted to the re-model, design and furnishing of a historic mid-century modern home in Palm Springs, California, by famed architect Donald Wexler. Since it’s completion, the residence has been featured on the cover of Palm Springs Life’s Home magazine in February 2005 and was showcased in the March 2006 issue of Metropolitan Home, where it was honored as “The Met Home of the Month.” Remarks the firm’s owner, D. Crosby Ross, “The end result of that project benefited greatly from Susan’s creativity, resourcefulness and dedication, and her efforts throughout were a large part of the job’s success. Susan has a remarkable sense of color and a true gift for coordinating fabrics and furniture quickly and effortlessly. She has a great flair for and understanding of, Mid Century modern aesthetics and a special talent for giving each of her projects a bit of her own unique personal style.”
Praised by clients for her innovative problem solving skills, imagination and originality, Ms. Deneau strives to create the best and most stylish solution for each client’s request – no matter what the price point or how unusual the demand. “My main objective with each project and client is to not only achieve the right individual aesthetic for them, but to have fun in the process,” she explains. “I don’t ever want this to be a stressful or unpleasant experience – I want my clients to feel that I listen to them, involve them, and that together, we have a great time creating their ideal room or home.”
Recent projects include: an ocean-adjacent townhouse in Manhattan Beach, a penthouse condominium in the prestigious Wilshire corridor, a mid-century home in west L.A., a condo residence in the Pacific Palisades and a commercial office space in the Miracle Mile’s historic Museum Square building.
